Welcome to NHMS's Media Center Web Page.  Below are links to heplful resources. Please come by the media center during school hours to explore books or use the media computer lab for research.

Destiny - Visit Destiny to see if we have the book you're looking for or to place a hold on a book. Remember you must sign in to Destiny to place holds.  (Use your computer login and password to log in to Destiny.)

Galileo - Use Galileo to research from a database of valid resources.  It's a great tool for weeding out "junk" results.  Galileo is free to use by WCS students and teachers on any WCS computer.  If you wish to use Galileo at home, you will need to see your media specialist for the password.

eBooks - Students with a Destiny login can read electronic books from our media center.  Use this link to see what books are available.  Remember when you check out an eBook, it is yours for two weeks and then it disappears from your name.  You can always check it out again, or you may choose to return it early.  Let us know if there are more titles you'd like us to order!

Lexile - Students receive a Lexile level (reading level) when taking MAP tests, SRI tests, and GA Milestones.  While true love of reading comes from reading what students enjoy, reading growth will come when students challenge themselves by reading on their reading level (a range from 100 points below to 50 points above their Lexile score).

"The Lexile measure (text complexity) of a book is an excellent starting point for a student’s book selection. It’s important to understand that the book’s Lexile measure should not be the only factor in a student’s book selection process. Lexile measures do not consider factors such as age-appropriateness, interest, and prior knowledge. These are also key factors when matching children and adolescents with books they might like and are able to read."

Visit Lexile.com to find book choices on your Lexile level. Grade Level Comparision Chart
