Summer Resources for Parents!

girl in libraryVisit the Get Georgia Reading website to learn about summer resources for parents!

During the summer months away from school, it’s crucial that children have access to healthy meals, safe environments, and books and educational opportunities so they can keep learning.

Public and private partners across Georgia—including the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, Georgia Public Library Service, and Georgia Public Broadcasting—have come together to create this online toolkit with resources for summer reading, learning, safety, and meals.

We encourage you to connect with other Georgians this summer by using the hashtag #SchoolsOutGA to share photos, videos, and stories that show how your family is incorporating these tools into your everyday life.

Summer Reading Program at Local Libraries

The Dalton-Whitfield County Library is gearing up for our 2017 Summer Reading Program!

“Our theme this year is ‘Build a Better World,’ and we will have exciting, free programming for our community,” said Lizzy Stuckey, children’s coordinator for the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library. “We will be hosting quality performers, promoting both STEM and literacy initiatives, and offering activities that will engage kids, teens, and adults during the month of June.”"

With the support of the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners, the library is able to bring the Summer Reading Program to four Whitfield County elementary schools again this year. The media centers at Antioch Elementary, Cohutta Elementary, Dug Gap Elementary, and Tunnel Hill Elementary will be open for special, limited hours throughout the month of June. These media centers are open to any and all children and families, regardless of where the child attends school. These sites will host free, exciting programs for children and families that are unable to travel to our library branches for Summer Reading.

We appreciate your support in our efforts to cultivate lifelong readers and learners in our community. Thank you, and we hope to see you at the library!
